Buying a new reading light? Check out my feature in Popular Mechanics.
When shopping for a reading light, I usually ask my patients to consider their environment and how they intend to use it. Typically, a person is reading in bed at night before going to sleep. Usually the room lighting is dim. Is someone else in bed next to them? Do they often have trouble falling asleep? Do they have any visual impairment?
Fortunately, there are many options out there for all different types of reading styles. When shopping for a reading light, one should pick one that is directional - able to point light directly on the reading material. In addition, there should be a setting to adjust the brightness.
Another important feature is that the reading light should NOT emit blue light. Exposure to blue light, especially at night before bedtime, can disrupt our natural circadian rhythm which regulates our sleep cycle. So for many people, exposure to blue light makes it harder to fall asleep.
I have much more to say on this topic, so please check out the article!
Grateful for Popular Mechanics for reaching out to me for this!
